Why filters matter
Filters are the working part of a ventilation system. As they load with dust and particulates, airflow drops, energy use rises and air quality suffers. In clinical environments, ventilation performance is part of the wider infection-control picture.
Waiting for a failure means reactive call-outs, discomfort and potential disruption to services. Planned filter changes avoid all three.
What a planned programme includes
A sensible programme covers scheduled filter changes, cleaning and inspection of air-handling units and plant rooms, aligned with the estate's maintenance plan. Frequencies reflect the setting: a busy hospital ward and a quiet office do not need the same schedule.
Every visit should produce a written record: what was inspected, what was changed, and anything that needs attention before the next visit.
Working around the operation
In live environments, access to plant rooms and AHUs is coordinated with the estates team, with agreed working windows and clear communication. Written records give estates teams the evidence trail they need for their own compliance reporting.
